Brandon Jackson Defends Himself Against White Mob, Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison

Brandon Jackson was reportedly jumped by 7 or 8 white men in 2006. One would think that the white men would’ve been charged with a crime, maybe even a hate crime, but actually the reverse happened. Six years after the fact, Jackson was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon he reportedly used to defend himself against the mob.

The fight began when Jackson was helping his employer move furniture when he noticed a rowdy group of intoxicated whites fighting across the street. He ran over to get a closer look, when one of the intoxicated fighters swung on Jackson.

 

Jackson tried to run, but was chased by the aggressor, who was now accompanied by 7 to 8 other white men, who followed Brandon and then reportedly began stomping and kicking him while yelling, “Kill the n*gger!”

 Jackson then pulled out a small three inch knife to protect himself, and once police arrived, the crowd was forced to disperse. Even though the police report described the fight as a “racial” incident, and Jackson was the only person hurt, Jackson was the only person charged with a crime.
By the time Jackson went to trial in 2009, the charges had somehow increased to include attempted murder.
Brandon’s lawyer provided a statement from a witness confirming that he hadn’t attacked the group of drunken white men, but prosecutors withheld that information from the defense team. Also withheld were toxicology reports which proved the white teens who attacked Jackson were intoxicated. Jackson was offered a five year plea deal but refused because he says he is innocent.
In Brandon’s trial, which was postponed until February of 2012, he was sentenced to twelve years in jail.

In a recent interview with News One, Brandon’s mother says she hasn’t lost faith and won’t give up on freeing her son.
