As they said, a little bit of luck could come in handy at times. And Luckily for Gerardo Flores, a skydiver with 29 successful jumps, is also now the survivor of a 13,000-foot fall.
The Daily Mail reported that the parachute unexpectedly opened within 30 seconds of Flores’s jump.
“It just exploded … It just it yanked me to the side. Something went wrong … One hundred things go through your mind. You are never suppose to open above 6,000 feet,” stated Flores.
As for the aftermath, although Flores survived the fall, he suffered lacerated tongue, broken ribs and was knocked unconscious due to the impact and was only able to wake up after two weeks, reported the NY Daily News.
Investigation was conducted by the FAA where they found out that a critical Velcro closure was completely worn. It was also added that the skydiver’s suspension lines were broken and the rigging had knots in it. The investigator said, “These lines should have been replaced prior top allowing this parachute to be placed in service.”
He also told Flores, “The FAA said you are the luckiest man I ever met.”
As if the experience was not enough as a reminder to make sure that everything is in good condition, the skydiver also has recorded his escape from death experience through his GoPro camera.
